Want to learn more about being a surrogate? Here’s a detailed look at the entire journey.

Step 1: Application and Prescreening (1-2 weeks)
We highly encourage you to submit an application to our surrogacy program. Once our agents review it and confirm your eligibility, we’ll contact you for the prescreening process. This includes a thorough interview to learn about your pregnancy history, family, support system, interpersonal relationships, life experiences and more. During this stage, we may also request your pregnancy and delivery records so that the IVF physician may review and pre-approve them.

Surrogate Matching (1 week - 1 month)
A case manager will then begin matching you with your most compatible Intended Parents. We hold the importance of a perfect match in high regard, paying close attention to similar values. Surrogacy is most successful when the surrogate mother and Intended Parents can form a special bond, so Oceanside goes to great lengths to ensure both parties can grow together through their journey.

Step 3: Psychological Evaluation (1-2 weeks)
A licensed professional then performs a psychological evaluation to ensure you are mentally and emotionally prepared for surrogacy. Surrogate mothers must have a medical history free of anxiety/depressive/bipolar and other common mental health disorders, as well as their associated medications.

Step 4: Medical Screening (2-4 weeks)
After matching with the Intended Parent(s), we will schedule a medical screening with your IVF physician. They will see to your care throughout the first 13 weeks of your pregnancy.  The physician will perform a physical exam, blood work, drug test, and ultrasound to ensure you meet all qualifications for surrogacy and are eligible for the in-vitro fertilization process.

Step 5: Legal Contract (3-4 weeks)
After clearing the medical screening, an attorney will draft a legally binding gestational carrier contract to be reviewed by you and the Intended Parent(s). Separate attorneys will represent each party throughout the surrogacy.

Step 6: Embryo Transfer (3-4 weeks)
Your IVF medication will begin after your contract has been signed, in preparation for the embryo transfer. A calendar of all injectable medications, along with instructions, will be provided by your IVF physician. After your last set of injections, the embryo transfer will take place, as advised by the doctor. Oceanside will ensure your travel accommodations are in place prior to your embryo transfer.

Step 7: Pregnancy and Delivery(9 months+)
Your IVF clinic will conduct monitoring appointments through the first thirteen weeks of your pregnancy. Thereafter, your OB-GYN will conduct the remainder of the monitoring until delivery.

Step 8: Post-Delivery Recovery(1-6 months)
After delivery and custody is transferred to the Intended Parent(s), Oceanside Surrogacy will help with your transition back to daily life, including up to six months of follow-up phone calls post-delivery.
